The Otakon of Ouchies.
To be noted: I am currently suffering from Plantar Fasciitis on my left foot. Causing toe-to-heel-to-ankle pain. Some copypasta: “It involves pain and inflammation of a thick band of tissue, called the plantar fascia, that runs across the bottom of your foot and connects your heel bone to your toes. Causing a stabbing pain in the bottom of your foot near the heel. The pain is usually worse with the first few steps after awakening, although it can also be triggered by long periods of standing or getting up from a seated position”
TL;DR: It hurts standing or walking for long periods of time.Thursday: I Want to Get Off Mr. Bones Wild Ride.
Got to the hotel no problem, I stayed at the Embassy Suits. When my boyfriend and I checked in and got our room keys, we had trouble reading the number, Does that say 3rd floor? Oh, no, it says 37th floor. Tippy top level. We unpack head down to get onto Mr. Bones Wild Ride-I mean get our badges. Two hours later we get our badges and my boyfriend and I get Priority+ ribbons allowing us to skip lines and use elevators. It was awesome.
Friday: Princess Celestia gets a +1 ouchie to her left foot, ouchie levels on left foot are now at +2Slightly revamped my P. Celestia cosplay from last year. New wig plus new wings. Wings were great sucess. Wig worked at first, but kept slipping off, wrote myself a note on how to secure it better for next year. But all in all, I’d say it was a success. I loved seeing people’s reactions as I could get my wings to open and close. What was really fun was I got swarmed by a group of five moms who were all, “My daughter loves Princess Celestia from My Little Pony!” and similar comments from little girls.
Now for how the ouchies became a +2. I was at the MLP photo shoot. I was standing on a 2ft ledge, and I was scooting to the side to make room for other people. The ledge ended. I didn’t know that. So I tumble and feel a shock wave of sharp pain go up my left ankle. Fortunately two staff members, a genderbent Photo Finish cosplayer, an Ash cosplayer with a Squirtle Squad plushie, and a non-staff member cosplaying as NightMare Moon, helped me limp to a shaded area while the staff members radioed for wheelchair. Got to see the back areas of convention centers, which was cool. They carted me to first aid room, got ice, they wrapped my ankle, downed two painkillers. Rested for moment, and slowly went back my way to hotel.Saturday: Ho-oh cosplay
No real issues at con. But it was when me and my boyfriend turned in for the night when the fun happened. Its roughly 10:40 pm, my boyfriend and I have tucked in for the night.
BWWWOOOOOP BWOOOOP WAMP WAMP WAMPLight starts flashing
Fire alarm has gone off.My boyfriend and I of course wake up, we stare at each other for a good moment with a “Are we dreaming or is it real?” We hastily put cloth on, I grab my 3DS, phone, con badge and my P. Celestia plushie.
I didn’t grab my cane.I had to walk down 37 flights of stairs with a foot injury.
We get down to ground, floor fire truck outside. We mull around a bit while the firemen check the building. No fire. What I gathered from other people who were outside that there was an altercation with a bachelorette party and and a guy with a “he said, she said,” argument, one of them pulled the fire alarm to spite other group. We go back inside, my legs are wobbly like jello from walking down 37 flights. Take elevator up, back to bed.
Sunday: Some last minute dealers room and artist alley shopping. Check out from hotel and go home.
